I’m offering a 24 hour visual journal workshop for members of the Book Arts Guild of Central Florida on Monday, March 11th from 6-8 pm at Rollins College. You can park at the Suntrust garage on Park Ave. and walk over to our building next to the Cornell Fine Arts Museum or try to find parking on campus, though there is a lot of construction right now. New members are welcome to join us, but please RSVP at our Facebook page because seats are limited. If you teach, please pass this along to your students.
A visual journal is a mixed media fusion of writing and art--a unique pathway to developing a sustainable habit of self-reflection. A 24 hour visual journal is a snapshot of a moment in our lives, an opportunity to gather the clutter around us and synthesize these mundane materials into a special time capsule documenting this particular moment. To prepare for this 24 hour visual journal workshop, gather up whatever paper-based material is in reach-- receipts from your wallet, take-out menus on your dining room table, doodles in your meeting notebook--anything that seems recent and somewhat inconsequential. Magazine clippings or printed screen shots of texts are rich materials, too. Take a look at this pile of stuff, take a deep breath, and then write for 15 minutes without pausing. Allow the thoughts bouncing around in your head to come spilling out onto the paper or screen. Bring a paper copy of this writing and the materials you gathered to the workshop. This is the raw material for your 24 hour journal.
